Prominent Dubbing Artists of India

Dubbing requires a lot of creativity. Giving a voice to someone else or even doing a simple voice over needs to be very convincing for the audience to believe that the sound is the same person's. Further, the expressions of the voice need to match and everything should be in sink. The process is complicated and requires high level of artistic skills. India is blessed to have some of the very talented dubbing Artists whose creative skills have amazed us all.

1. Rajesh Khattar

An actor for various blockbuster films like DON, Race 2, Khiladi 786, Manjunath and Gang of Ghosts, Rajesh Khattar has dubbed more than 100 foreign films in Hindi. He has been the voice behind several famous Hollywood celebrities like Tom Hanks, Hugh Jackman, Robert Downey Jr., Nicolas Cage, Johnny Depp, Lambert Wilson The Rock, and Michael Fassbender. He is very well versed with Hindi, English, Punjabi and Urdu. The actor, screenwriter and dubbing artist is well-known for his Hindi voice as Captain Jack Sparrow, Ghost Rider, Shrek and Iron Man.

2. Mona Ghosh Shetty

A specialist in dubbing for teenage, young adult and middle-aged female characters, Mona Ghosh Shetty has been dubbing in Hindi for more than 15years. She has been the voice behind many celebrities like Cameron Diaz, Angelina Jolie, Kirsten Dunst, Halle Berry, Zoe Saldana, Kate Beckinsale, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Drew Barrymore, Deepika Padukone Jacqueline Fernandez, Katrina Kaif, Nargis Fakhri and many others. She professionally dubs in English, Hindi, Bengali and Oriya. But if the need arises, she can dub in all the 10 official regional languages under the guidance of a supervisor. She runs her own dubbing studio in Mumbai named Sound & Vision India and is a very eminent artist in her field.

3. Piyush Pandey

Considered as the best voiceover artist in Indian advertising, Piyush Pandey is the voice we hear every day in ads of famous brands like Fevicol, Asian Paints and SBI Life Insurance. He is also the very successful co-executive chairman and national creative director of Ogilvy & Mather India and vice-chairman of O&M Asia-Pacific. He is also the recipient of Padma Shri in 2016. Some of the notable ad campaigns designed by the artist include campaigns for Cadbury dairy milk, Fevikwik, Fevicol and Asian Paints. He has also worked for anti-smoking campaigns, Indian tourism campaigns and BJP’s campaign for general elections in 2014. He is surely one of the most creative Ad designers with a voice of conviction and warmth we will forever cherish.

4. Richa Nigam

With a grainy, husky voice, she’s ruling the Indian ad voice-over industry. Loved by millions of Indians, Richa Nigam is the voice we hear in the ads of Tata Indicom, Tata Sky, Pillsbury, Nutrilite Amway, Domino's Junior Joybox, Brookebond, Coca-Cola, Paper Boat and Surf Excel ‘Daag Achche Hain’ ads. Belonging to a musically inclined family, she too went to get trained in classical music. But her husky voice brought her to Indian advertising industry and in 2015 she received the best dubbing artist award for her contribution as a voice-over artist in the advertising fraternity.

5. Chetan Sashital

An expert in the voice acting industry, Chetan Sashital is one of the most recognised dubbing artists of India. Considered as the official dubbing artist for the legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan, he has also given the voice for Sanjay Dutt, Salman Khan, Sunny Deol and Dharmendra. Since years he has been working for local Indian productions giving voices to animation. He is well-known for his voices of Genie from Disney's Aladdin and Baloo the Bear from Talespin and The Jungle Book 2. He has also received the CNBC TV-18 Cursor award and Indo American Society’s Young Achiever award for his brilliant work in the field of voicing.
