Recipient of National Nritya Shiromani Award 2013, Young Achiever Award for Dance and Choreography 2011 and Best Dancer Award 2001, Chitra is the Founder and Artistic Director of Rhythmotion Dance Company, Bengaluru. Choreographer, dancer, teacher, philanthropist and performing artist, she was invited to work in London for seven years with Shobana Jeyasingh Dance and with leading dance choreographers and dance universities, including Wayne Mc Gregor, Laurie Booth, The Place Theatre. She professes and practices Bharatanatyam, Kathak and Contemporary dance at Rhythmotion. She also trains the hearing impaired students of SKID, Bengaluru.
A paneled artist of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations in Contemporary dance, Chitra trained in Indian Carnatic Vocal and Instrument Veena. She has a Masters degree in History from the Karnataka State Open University. A graded artist of Doordarshan in both Bharatanatyam and Kathak styles, she has worked with eminent dance gurus and choreographers and has performed at various prestigious dance festivals in India and abroad.
Founded in 2008, Rhythmotion Dance Company comprises of young, creative, enthusiastic, and innovative artists whose passion is to dance. The dance productions of Rhythmotion are deeply rooted in Indian classical dance traditions and yet contemporary in their presentations which make them dynamic, refreshing, innovative and a visual treat. Specialties: Conduct dance classes and workshops for amateurs, professionals, corporate and the hearing and speech impaired. The Rhythmotion Trust organizes "Chalana-dance for a cause" a biennial Classical and Contemporary dance festival in aid of the Deaf Aid Socirty, that premiered in 2008.
