Lorena La Grassa is the former Valley Arts District Coordinator and ValleyArts Inc. Executive Director, La Grassa started her career as art administrator for the Taranto Gallery and business (NYC) in 1998. La Grassa first assignment was PR and marketing for the photography gallery and the Taranto business’ publication. Six months later she was promoted director of the same gallery until 2000 curating and coordinating over 20 exhibitions with one or multiple locations creating collaborations with other galleries in the NYC area and with foreign cultural councils and institutions such as the Italian Cultural Council, the French Council and the Deutsches Haus at the NYU. Her work as artist, director and curator has been reviewed in several national and international publications. In 2008 La Grassa started her work as a consultant and volunteer for the non-profit organization called HANDS in New Jersey coordinating “Uncharted Territory” the first contemporary art exhibition for the Valley Arts District in 2009. Several months later she gave life to the first edition of the annual Open Studio Stroll a community art event that takes place in the Valley in collaboration with local organizations, business and artists. In 2010 she started to work full time as coordinator for the Valley Arts District and Executive Director of ValleyArts Inc. She has been a member of the West Orange Arts Council and between 2009 and 2010 she had also devoting time as independent curator for the New Jersey Arts Incubator organization in West Orange. During her three years of working in the Valley Arts District in West Orange, NJ, La Grassa has curated and coordinated over 40 art events and initiatives including contemporary art exhibits, studio strolls, sculpture gardens, multiple sites exhibits,community art events and place making initiatives.
